The model 22 was developed to replace the Val dive bomber for the Imperial Japanese Navy. It began replacing the Val dive bomber in service in 1943 and became the standard IJN dive bomber by 1944. It was powered by a license built German DB601 engine that was the Luftwaffe's Bf109 power plant. The engine proved troublesome to maintain and operate. This led to a second development of a radial engine variant, the D4Y3, using the more reliable Japanese Kinsei 62 radial engine. It was no more self protected than the Val -- lacking armor and having only a single 7.7mm tail gun on a swivel mount for its rear cover. In spite of that, it was responsible for sinking the USS Princeton and heavily damaging the USS Franklin.

There is a no markings PCX included in case you would like to develop different markings for the plane, with my blessing. Capt.Kurt.
